Everything you need to know about ParBoilers Golf Club

FAQ

The ParBoilers Golf Club operates on a minimal budget. A significant benefit of ParBoilers life is that very little of your event entry fee is pilfered by the club. Yearly dues are $80 per member, of which $41 is directed to the Southern California Golf Association to cover SCGA/USGA annual membership and $5 covers our online scoring app. A one-time $50 pre-booking fee is collected from each new member. This $50 fee is used to cover course deposits and prepaid events. The ParBoilers Golf Club "Pre-Booking Fund" has $50 for each active member minus outstanding deposits and pre-paid events.

You can install ParBoilers like a real app on your home screen — no App Store needed. iPhone (Safari): 1. Open ParBoilers in Safari (not Chrome — must be Safari). 2. Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen (the square with an arrow pointing up). 3. Scroll down in the share sheet and tap "Add to Home Screen". 4. Tap "Add" in the top-right corner. 5. The ParBoilers logo will appear on your home screen — tap it like any other app. Android (Chrome): 1. Open ParBoilers in Chrome. 2. Chrome may show an "Install" prompt automatically — tap it. 3. If not, tap the three-dot menu in the top right, then "Install app" or "Add to Home Screen". Computer (Chrome or Edge): 1. Open ParBoilers in Chrome or Edge. 2. Look for a small install icon in the address bar (a square with a downward arrow). 3. Click it and choose "Install". Once installed, the site runs in its own window with no browser bar — feels like a real app, and the icon sits on your home screen / launcher with the other apps.

Sign up directly on the website. From the homepage or the Tournaments page, click into an upcoming tournament and use the Sign Up button. Signups close at the end of business on the Monday before the event. Sign-ups are first come, first served, except for the first two months of the PB Club Championship and PB Better Ball competitions, when members already signed up take precedence.

We can take a check at the event, however we cannot process credit cards. The preferred method of payment is cash or Venmo, but we also accept PayPal. This allows us to have sufficient funds after the event for point distribution.

There are three separate contests you can enter in each tournament. You can play any or all of the following: • Flights — participate in low net by flight, CTP, and low putts. Flight points payouts are based on the number of players in the field. Members are required to enter this contest. Guests may enter but are only eligible for CTP and Low Putts and are NOT eligible to place in Flights. Fee: 10.00 points. • Gross Skins — optional, gross skins pool. Fee: 10.00 points. • Net Skins — optional, net skins pool. Fee: 10.00 points. Tie-Breaker: in case two players/teams have the same net score, the tie-breaker is gross score on Hole #10 on the card (28th hole played for the Club Championship), NOT the 10th or 28th hole played. There are no handicap adjustments for the tie-breaker. If the two players/teams match hole 10, the tie-breaker goes to the next hole until one player/team wins with a lower score. CTP — Closest to the Pin is measured for each Par 3. The club has a CTP kit (tape measure, pencil, card) located next to the green. Low Putts — there are points for low putts per tournament. Gross Skins and Net Skins — points awarded per skin won.

Tournament Check-In: all members are requested to be at the course and checked in AT LEAST AN HOUR BEFORE THE FIRST TEE TIME. This gives us enough time to reconcile monies and pay the course. Remember that the person collecting monies is playing that day as well and would like time to hit balls and putt. Scorecard Submission: please enter all gross scores in the scoring app. Include your first and last name on the scorecard for all players. Match the scorecard to the scores in the app to confirm. Complete your scorecard including adding the front and back nines AND TOTAL PUTTS. Note low putts on the card and write the player's name. If you have side bets, please use a second card to track and turn in your official card to the score keeper BEFORE figuring out your other bets.

No — the club handicap chairman will post your adjusted score after each ParBoilers event. Please do not post any duplicated events.

We use our in-house scoring system. All players are entered with their current GHIN index as of the date of the tournament. The course is configured with rating, slope, and per-hole handicap based on the published GHIN values for the tees played. All scores are entered as scorecards are turned in. The system automatically ranks players by flight and calculates low net, gross skins, and net skins. Final results appear on the tournament's Leaderboard tab after the event.

The tees are determined by the Board of Directors prior to each event using the following criteria: the "Back" tee box is the tee box where the COURSE RATING is within 2 strokes below the par of the course and 1.5 strokes above the par of the course. The "Forward" tee box is the next tee box forward from the selected "Back" tee box. To make tournaments more enjoyable for all players, beginning in 2023: • Players with an index of 18.0 or higher, OR an index of 14.0+ and age 62–67, OR an index of 12.0+ and age 68–75, may play one tee box forward from the "Back" (Blue) tee box — the "Forward" (White) tee box. • Players with an index of 15.0 or higher AND age 76+ may play one tee box up from the "Forward" (White) tee box — the "Up" (Red) tee box. Choosing the forward option adjusts the course handicap as outlined below. Simulations on the courses we normally play show this typically results in a 3–4 stroke adjustment. Course handicap calculation: 1. Multiply the player's index by the tee box's slope. 2. Divide the result by 113. 3. Add the tee box course rating. 4. Subtract the par for the course. Example — Los Serranos South Tees: Blue (rating 74.1, slope 133), White (72.2 / 128), Red (68.5 / 119). Player index 18.5, par 74. Blue: 18.5 × 133 = 2460.5 → ÷113 = 21.8 → +74.1 = 95.9 → −74 = 21.9 (rounded 22) White: 18.5 × 128 = 2368 → ÷113 = 21.0 → +72.2 = 93.2 → −74 = 19.2 (rounded 19) Red: 18.5 × 119 = 2201 → ÷113 = 19.5 → +68.5 = 88.0 → −74 = 14

Note: we typically pay through 3rd place with two flights; with only 1 flight we usually pay through 5th. Places paid depend on field size. • Gross Skins: total Gross Skins players × 10 points, divided by the number of Gross Skins won (minor rounding may apply). • Net Skins: total Net Skins players × 10 points, divided by the number of Net Skins won (minor rounding may apply). • Low Putts: 20 or 25 points depending on field size. • CTP: 20 or 25 points depending on field size.

Yes. There is a club HIO points fund that starts at 250 points and grows by 5 points per tournament to a maximum of 500 points. If there's no winner after reaching the 500 point maximum, 5 points goes into a side fund to be added to the 250 point starting point for the next HIO. Prior winners are listed on the Hole-in-One Wall (Club → Hole-in-One Wall).

Results are calculated on-site at the tournament once the last scorecard is turned in and winnings are distributed. If a member leaves early and is not present to collect their winnings, the club holds the amount and distributes it. The ParBoilers Vault Tax is a front-loaded charge of 10% (rounded up) for total points held by the ParBoilers Golf Club because the member was not present to collect. Vault Tax is calculated using simple ParBoilers math. Examples: • 25 points Closest to Pin × 10% = 2.50 → rounded up to 3 points Vault Tax. • 25 points Low Putts (2 winners): 25 / 2 = 12 points each (1 point residual to ParBoilers GC); 12 × 10% = 1.20 → rounded up to 2 points Vault Tax. • 175 point Skin × 10% = 17.50 → rounded up to 18 points Vault Tax. If you are a multiple winner, each event is taxed individually: • 1st Place in Flight 50 points × 10% = 5 points Vault Tax. • Closest to Pin 25 points × 10% = 2.50 → 3 points Vault Tax. • Net Skin 65 points × 10% = 6.50 → 7 points Vault Tax. • Total Vault Tax held for member by club = 5 + 3 + 7 = 15 points.
